The Inner Courtyard
The 800 m² U-shaped courtyard takes up to 150 guests for a cocktail reception, the largest format in the house. It is usually used in summer, when it is warm, together with the Main Salon.
An inner courtyard for events in Bucharest
The inner courtyard of Vila Tătărescu measures 800 m² and is U-shaped. It is the largest space in the house at 19 Polonă Street, Dorobanți, Sector 1, and its open-air event space. A cocktail reception here takes up to 150 guests, the house's maximum for a single event.
If you are planning an outdoor event in Bucharest, the courtyard is the house's open-air space: in the centre of the city, a 7–8 minute walk from Piața Romană metro station (M2).
The villa hosts only one event at a time: for the duration of your event, the courtyard and the spaces you book are not shared with any other group.
In summer, together with the Main Salon
The courtyard is usually used in summer, when it is warm, and as a rule together with the Main Salon. The two spaces complement each other: the courtyard takes the open-air part of the event, and the ground-floor salons the indoor part, with 40 people theatre-style, 80 seated or 100 for a cocktail reception.
A few possible combinations:
- guests welcomed with a drink in the courtyard, then a seated dinner in the salon, for up to 80 guests;
- a theatre-style presentation in the salon, for 40 people, then a cocktail reception in the courtyard, for up to 150;
- dinner in the salon, then the evening continues in the courtyard.
When you send us the date of your event, we confirm whether the courtyard can be used.
What the courtyard looks like
From the courtyard you see the white façade of the house, with its arcades. The building permit for the house was issued in 1935, for the family of Prime Minister Gheorghe Tătărescu. It was designed by the architects Alexandru Zaharia and Ion Giurgea, in a Mediterranean style with Neo-Romanian elements, and is a listed historic monument (LMI B-II-m-B-19435).
In the photographs in the gallery, the courtyard is set for a cocktail reception: tall tables, wrought-iron chairs, statues and plants. For a film crew or a photographer, the courtyard offers wide exterior shots without leaving the house; the details are on the filming and photo shoots page.

Premium catering and a bar, with professional staff, are available for the full length of the event. Your dedicated event manager coordinates the schedule and the movement between the courtyard and the salons, from welcoming the guests to the close.

Can the courtyard be used in the cold season?
The courtyard is usually used in summer, when it is warm. For a date in the cold season we suggest the main salons: 80 guests seated or 100 for a cocktail reception.
What happens if it rains on the day?
The wet-weather plan is agreed together with the quote, with your dedicated event manager. When the courtyard is booked together with the Main Salon, as it usually is, the ground-floor salons take up to 100 guests for a cocktail reception.
Can I book the courtyard on its own, without the salon?
As a rule, the courtyard is used together with the Main Salon. If you have only the courtyard in mind, describe the format in your request and we will confirm which option is possible on the date you choose.
Can a seated dinner be held in the courtyard?
The courtyard's confirmed capacity is for a cocktail reception: up to 150 guests. Seated dinners are served in the main salons, for up to 80 guests. If you would like to dine in the open air, tell us the number of guests and we will reply for your event.
Is there audio-visual equipment in the courtyard?
The high-speed Wi-Fi covers the courtyard as well. In the salons, speeches and presentations have a 4K audio-visual system, screens with screen sharing and wireless microphones; the equipment used in the courtyard is agreed with your event manager before booking.
How do guests get here, and where do they park?
19 Polonă Street is a 7–8 minute walk from Piața Romană metro station (M2). The villa has no parking of its own; cars park on the street, in public parking spaces nearby. Details on the Getting here page.
